March 18, 2022 marked the 100th anniversary of Judith Kaplan becoming the first bat mitzvah. To explore this groundbreaking moment, Moore + Associates worked with her synagogue, SAJ: Judaism That Stands For All, and other partner organizations to create @JudithKaplan1922 on Instagram. Her Instagram Stories form a video journal set in New York City during the weeks before and after Judith's bat mitzvah. In addition to learning about Judith's preparations to become bat mitzvah in 1922, viewers find out about her interests, her friends and family, her love of music and Judaism, and her commitment to women's emancipation. While sharing twice-weekly “episodes” of her video journal, we encouraged people to share their own bat mitzvah story on Instagram and Facebook, and hundreds responded with photos, videos, and more.
